Position description
InMotion seeks law student interns for the summer. This position requires a commitment of 35 hours per week for a minimum of 10 weeks. Internships are unpaid, however interns may apply work-study, public interest law fellowship or clinical credit through their law schools to their internship. InMotion has offices in Manhattan, Bronx and Queens. Site placements will be made based on the needs of each office.

Position responsibilities
The intern will work under the direction of inMotion’s staff attorneys. The intern’s assignments will vary depending on her/his interests and inMotion’s program needs. The intern may assist clients with securing uncontested divorces or immigration status through a VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) self-petition or battered spouse waiver. The intern may also assist with in-house trainings at large law firms, conduct initial client intakes by phone, research legal issues and assist with updating program materials and training manuals. The intern will learn basic interviewing skills through client interviews and learn substantive matrimonial, family and immigration law. .
Qualifications
- Law students who have completed their first or second year of law school

- Good interpersonal and organizational skills, self-starter, and highly motivated
|
- Knowledge of family, matrimonial and/or immigration law or domestic violence helpful but not required
|
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently
|
- Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred
