Major law firms contribute extraordinary support to inMotion’s pro bono program via externships. On three- to four-month rotation schedules, associates (i.e., externs) from firms work full-time in our offices, carrying caseloads comparable to those handled by family law staff attorneys at legal services organizations.

We gain immediate access to dedicated lawyers eager to provide in-court representation to women who contact us with emergency cases presenting significant and compelling challenges. These lawyers often appear in court for new clients with less than 24-hours’ notice.

- Our experienced staff attorneys provide quality mentoring and supervision

- Externs average three appearances a week in Supreme and Family Courts throughout the City, where they interact with judges and opposing counsel early in their litigation careers

- Where possible, inMotion assigns cases to externs that offer the possibility of establishing new precedent in matrimonial or family law
|
- Because the sponsoring law firm is counsel of record on all cases handled by its externs, the firm experiences a substantial increase in its overall pro bono hours
