Social services support

InMotion’s social work support services are available only to clients who are being represented by our volunteer attorneys. Clients must be referred to our social work team by their lawyers; clients are not eligible to request social work support without the recommendation of their attorneys.

During the course of your pro bono case, you may discover that your client is dealing with difficult and challenging non-legal issues, such as finding safe and affordable housing or accessing important financial and health benefits. Many clients also need help coping with mental health issues. Often we find that a client’s inability to address these issues adversely affects the progress of her legal case.

Types of assistance we can provide for your client
  • Crisis intervention, safety planning and assistance locating a domestic violence shelter
  • Counseling services and referral to mental health services for her and/or her children
  • Assistance and advocacy with public assistance, health insurance, housing and other entitlements
  • Referrals to additional support services, such as job training and financial empowerment programs

How to refer your client to inMotion’s social work team
  • Talk with her—let your client know that she is eligible for free social services from inMotion, if you think she may benefit from experienced professional advice and support.
  • Contact us—if she is interested, contact socialwork@inmotiononline.org or call 646.442.1183.

What you need to provide
  • Your client’s name and a safe contact phone number
  • A brief summary of the non-legal issue(s) with which your client needs assistance

Please do not have your client contact us directly before we discuss her case and issues with you.
