Giving every woman an effective voice
A large and growing number of women who seek legal help from inMotion are not fluent in English. They, therefore, cannot explain their legal needs to us or to the court in English.
- Interpretation—You can assist inMotion ’s legal staff in conducting interviews and meetings with our clients who are not fluent in English. We also ask volunteer interpreters to accompany our lawyers and their clients to court appearances and administrative hearings.
|
| |
- Translation for individual clients—Some clients have legal and related documents essential to their cases that need translation and transcription into English.
|
| |
- Translation for entire communities—InMotion provides basic information about legal rights and responsibilities to women through a series of easy-to-read booklets entitled The Basics Series. Translated entirely into Spanish and other languages, we seek to translate this series into as many additional languages as possible.

Because a large percentage of our clients are Latina , our greatest need is for individuals who can interpret and translate in Spanish. However, we assist women from many cultural backgrounds who speak the full array of languages spoken in the varied immigrant communities of New York City . Fluency in any foreign language will enable us to reach more women who need our legal services.
Your commitment
You and our supervising attorney will discuss and agree upon the parameters of your services in advance. You may decide to interpret and/or translate for one client or assist many clients who come from a community whose language and culture is familiar to you. We will schedule client meetings to fit your schedule whenever possible.
What you gain
You will have the satisfaction of helping individual women in gaining access to our justice system.
- Get to know New York City—Our clients live in all five boroughs. They represent virtually every ethnic and cultural group in our diverse city.
|
| |
- Enhance your future—You will learn more about our laws and legal system and may use this experience to enhance your chances of employment in the court system.
