InMotion involves law students in virtually all aspects of our work
Students work under the direct supervision of the experienced public interest lawyers on our staff. You can assist women who connect with inMotion for representation in a matrimonial, family or immigration law case.

-
Client contact—Students assist our staff in conducting phone and in-person intake interviews. Often, a law student is the first sympathetic person to speak with a woman desperate for assistance. Learn about our cases.

| |
-
Drafting legal documents—Women are often unable to obtain attorney representation in time to make timely responses in their court cases. Our interns draft both responsive pleadings that save clients from default judgments and important supporting affidavits, memoranda and discovery documents for other legal actions.

| |
-
Community outreach—Students help our staff organize and present legal information to staff and clients of community-based organizations. You may also staff a Saturday walk-in clinic in the Bronx. Learn more.

Bilingual students are especially helpful with interpreting during client interviews and case preparation meetings. If you are fluent in a language other than English and familiar with one of the many immigrant communities in New York City, you can provide culturally sensitive assistance to women who cannot communicate their legal needs to us in English. Spanish-fluency is particularly valuable, as more than 50% of our clients are Latina.
Your commitment
We ask law student interns to commit a minimum of 10 hours a week for a semester or more during the school year. Summer interns work 35 hours per week for a minimum of 10 weeks (beginning in late May and ending in August). Learn more.
If you are a law student working as a summer associate at one of inMotion’s Corporate Partner law firms, you may be able to participate in our Summer Associate Program. Contact your firm’s pro bono coordinator or recruiting department to find out how you volunteer to work on a case.

What you gain
You will enjoy the satisfaction of assisting individual women in obtaining life-altering legal outcomes that benefit them and their loved ones. Equally important, you will see how law is actually practiced. You will become familiar with aspects of matrimonial, family and/or immigration law.
