As auction co-chairs, we wish to extend our personal thanks to the wonderful and generous galleries, artists and other art donors who make this event possible. Year after year, we are amazed by their enthusiasm for inMotion’s mission and commitment to helping inMotion raise vital funds for the women and children of New York City.
We are pleased to highlight some new features in the auction this year. You may notice many groovy selections in the Live Auction and Silent Auction. In tribute to the Baby Boomer generation, we asked galleries and artists to donate photographs with connections to the 1960s and 1970s. The resulting contributions include spectacular photos of Woodstock, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Twiggy. We are also honored to include a photograph by longtime inMotion-supporter Graham Nash and a Private Portrait Commission by Harry Benson, who famously documented the Beatles’ first U.S. tour.
We thank the many talented, non-professional photographers who donated images to our Silent Auction. Many of these “friends of inMotion” contribute pieces each year, and they each have a unique connection to inMotion. We are proud to showcase them and very grateful for their support. In the Silent Auction, you will also note that we have joined the modern world by adopting electronic bidding. We know that this will add a new level of excitement and competitiveness to the Silent Auction, and our auction staff will assist you with this fun and easy technology.
Last but not least, we wish to welcome Daile Kaplan as our 2012 auctioneer! Vice President and Director of Photographs at Swann Galleries, Daile and her staff have been incredibly supportive of inMotion, and we are thrilled to be collaborating with them.
