Support my Tri for Justice
Westchester Triathlon
Sunday, September 26, 2010
My name is Chris Scudero. I am a member of inMotion's Junior Advisory Board.
I’m not like many of the volunteers here at InMotion. Most of them are attorneys, but I’m a forensic accountant. I wanted to find a way to help victims of domestic violence, and I found I could do it utilizing the skills I use every day of my professional life.
Economic abuse is a very common form of domestic violence. Economic abuse often makes it impossible for women to escape their batterers. Economic abusers hide or withhold funds in order to exercise control. I do my best not to let that happen.
I use the forensic accounting skills I learned working in commercial litigation to track down income and assets for support. This is how I give back. You can help those in need in a different way. You can help by supporting my Tri for Justice!
I’m competing in an Olympic-distance triathlon in Rye, New York on September 26. The Westchester Triathlon will certainly be a struggle for me, but that struggle will be in support of an organization that does so much good for so many.
Your generous donation will support InMotion in helping the thousands of women and children they serve each year escape a life of abuse, neglect and constant fear. Your financial suport will provide strong and caring legal help to low-income women living in New York City who need these legal services in matrimonial, family and immigration law. This legal help will enable them to escape from their abusers.
Working together, we can strive to achieve justice for all women.

Sink or Swim—0.9 mile swim |
| |
|
No one would ever accuse me of being a great swimmer, and close to a mile in open water is quite a distance. Help me get off to a great start. Through inMotion, your donation of $25 will help provide a fresh start for a woman and her children in New York City. It will pay the car fare for them to travel to one of inMotion’s offices so that they can meet with a staff attorney. Just like my swim, getting started is the toughest part of their struggle.

Keeping the Pace—24.8 mile bike ride |
| |
|
Westchester is known for its hills and the bike course does not disappoint. The women fighting to free themselves and their children from abuse face the real uphill battle. Your donation of $50 pays for a process server to serve an order of protection on a woman's batterer, allowing her to begin the process of leaving a dangerous relationship and starting a new life. |

Running Hard—10K run |
| |
|
It’s getting close to the end, but I still have a 10k run ahead of me. Haven’t I done enough already? The answer is no, the final stretch still lies ahead. I need your help to keep going. Help a woman and her children make it through their final stretch in the legal system. A donation of $75 supports telephone screening and intake services for 5 women desperate to find a free lawyer.

Start to Finish—0.9 mile swim, 24.8 mile bike ride,
6.2 mile run |
| |
|
InMotion helps thousands of women and children each year, yet they don’t have the resources to help every woman in need. Your Start to Finish donation of $200 will help me dig deeper, ride harder and pull myself across that finish line. More importantly, it will provide 4 hours of interpretation services to a non-English speaking client so she can communicate clearly with her inMotion attorneys about her needs and options. |
