Publicado en el 2002 por inMotion y el Brooklyn Bar Association Volunteer Lawyers Project, Los Básicos—La Serie fue producido para abordar el problema de la falta de asistencia legal gratis para mujeres de bajos ingresos en la Ciudad de Nueva York sobre las leyes matrimoniales y familiares

Cientos de miles de personas cada año están involucradas en trámites judiciales en la Corte de Familia en la Ciudad de Nueva York. Sin embargo menos de 100 abogados de facultad están dedicados a los casos de familia y de matirmonio en las agencias de servicios legales gratis en la Ciudad de Nueva York. Como resultado, la mayoría de las personas que van a la Corte de Familia se obligan a proceder sin representación legal y con poca información sobre los aspectos sustantivos o de procedimiento de sus casos.

Escrito en lenguaje simple, Los Básicos—La Serie fue diseñado para el uso del individual que tiene que representarse a sí mismo en asuntos familiares y matrimoniales.

Los folletos se han traducido a muchos de los idiomas hablados en la Ciudad de Nueva York.
