Jillian Koes
Development and event planning intern

“Over the past several months, I have learned the necessary skills to pursue a career in event planning and gained tremendous insight into the complex level of detail required to orchestrate a successful event.”

Jillian is a senior at Wagner College, majoring in sociology. When she saw the posting for a development internship at inMotion, she jumped at the chance to combine her academic background in criminal justice, sociology and gender studies with her professional interest in event planning and fundraising.

Jillian begain her internship in SeptemberAugust 2006 and is continuing to work with inMotion through the spring semester of 2007. On a daily basis, Jillian experiences what it is like to be a part of a development team, and she has learned the basics of cultivating donor support—from sending out mailings and press kits, to coordinating volunteers, to preparing for and working at major fundraising events.

Jillian appreciates that she is treated like any other full-time staff member. “I’ve been involved in every phase of event planning and have had an opportunity to play a role every step of the way. After all of the hard work to build an event, it’s rewarding to see our guests enjoying themselves.” Jillian adds, “Of course, it’s also nice knowing that my work here is helping women and children in domestic crisis.”
