In-house volunteer, Bronx office

"At inMotion, the intellectual challenges of practicing law are coupled with a very human element and lead to an entirely different level of satisfaction."

Evelyn began her legal career as an insurance defense litigator. After practicing law for several years and struggling to balance an inflexible work schedule with the demands of raising her family, Evelyn made the difficult decision to leave the workforce and become a full-time parent.

Once her children were grown, Evelyn decided to resume her legal career by volunteering several days each week in our Bronx office. Of her decision to volunteer at inMotion, Evelyn noted, “At inMotion, I had a wonderful opportunity to regain skills and learn an entirely new practice area while giving something meaningful back to my community.”

Evelyn got her first taste of public interest law in college, where she helped several low income women obtain uncontested divorces. Twenty years later, Evelyn found herself turning full circle – returning to one of the core inspirations that sparked her interest in law – to serve New York City’s under-represented communities.

“To help when a person is at her darkest hour is the most important legal work I can do,” explained Evelyn. To that end, on intake days, Evelyn was a caring voice on the phone to women who called in moments of crisis. She also represented more than 20 women in uncontested divorces and directly represented several clients in Family Court.

Evelyn recently received a 2006 Commitment to Justice Award from inMotion for her resourceful and compassionate work.
